“Trying to be enlightened is like trying to bite your teeth. Buddhism is about being fully alive in the moment.” Today on BOLD, Gary Gach, the best-selling author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Buddhism,” breaks down its embracing concepts for an awakened life.
“1 out of 8 Americans have found the teachings of Buddha influential in their lives,” he says. Riding a wave of popularity and increased awareness in the West, Buddhism’s got everyone talking, meditating–and chanting. For thousands of years, it has been a source of inner peace and security for millions.
“It’s non-dogmatic. It asks that we ‘see’ for ourselves.” Gary’s book provides extensive information on understanding the teachings, schools and tenets of Buddhism around the world. His website is www.word.to. Join the conversation at www.getboldtoday.com.
I am a member of SGI which is a Buddhist organization based in Japan. I have been practicing for 10 years. I think my Buddhist practice focuses on how our environment is a reflection of our own lives. When we want to change our environment we must make the “right causes” in order to change the effects that we are experiencing.
